Ken and Kristin Wenger
In 2010, Ken and Kristin Wenger started visiting a friend in Woodstock, NY. They fell in love with the area; its natural beauty, culture and unique Hudson Valley charm. When it came time to select an early retirement spot, their friend and current partner in KCK Bearsville, suggested they subdivide a portion of her property. That was the start of their journey to build their dream home.
The late William Johnson designed the home and Constantine Kalesis, an architect from NYC created a building plan and moved into the role of architect and advisor.
Using timbers from the property for the ceilings of the Bearsville house introduced character and has become an ongoing characteristic of future projects. Ken and Kristin oversaw all design aspects of the building process, selecting tile, faucets, kitchen cabinets and hardware, lighting, flooring, paint colors and floor stain. There was not one aspect that their hands did not touch. In October 2017, they took occupancy of their home. Feeling a great sense of satisfaction with the process, Ken and Kristin looked for a new creative challenge. With their partner, they purchased a 7 acre parcel in Saugerties with an incredible view of the iconic Overlook Mountain. Working with Constantine Kalesis, a design was created to complement the land and the vista. Ken and Kristin engaged 3rd Generation Construction as general contractor and builder and broke ground in July 2019. The house, featured in the cover article of Upstate House – Winter 2020/21 edition, sold in November of 2020. KCK Bearsville is now working, once again with Constantine Kalesis and 3rd Generation Construction, on creating a country compound situated on 19 acres overlooking Mount Guardian in beautiful Bearsville.
